Uzbekistan, including the Republic of Karakalpakstan, occupies a special place in the system of relations between Russia and the countries of Central Asia. On the one hand, the republic is an important economic partner of the Russian Federation, on the other; it always occupies a special position in some political issues and is a difficult ally of Moscow.
