Abstract

The development of social media has been growing rapidly, including in Indonesia. Social
media is actively used by the young generation to seek information, communicate, and
develop friendships. Although it is an important platform of network communication, not
many studies have investigated governance in social media. This study aims to understand the
effects of transparency, accountability, and participation as variables of governance on the
discretion of netizens in social media, particularly Facebook users. This research used the
quantitative approach with the survey method. The sample of this research were 400
Facebook users in Jakarta. Data was obtained by distributing questionnaires and then
analyzed through the regression analysis method. Through the results of this research, we can
conclude that transparency, accountability, and participation significantly influences the
discretion of netizens on social media (Facebook).
