THE RELATIONSHIP BETWEEN DEFINE MISSION AND SCHOOL PERFORMANCE: A CONCEPTUAL FRAMEWORK
Abstract
In the 21st century, school leadership in Malaysia is focused on instructional leadership. This scenario
is because the Ministry of Education Malaysia has outlined this in the Malaysia Education Blueprint
(PPPM) 2013-2025. Based on meta-analysis method, there are two factors that have been found to
influence the success of the school mission. The first factor is the ability of the headmaster to clearly
explain the mission of the school. The second factor is establishing good relationships with followers.
Majority of the findings showed that excellence in school performance could easily be achieved when
the headmaster able to fulfil the teachers’ needs. However, some studies revealed that school
performance was not influenced by the school's mission This shows that excellence in school
performance does not depend on defining the school's mission. Thus, in this conceptual paper a
retrospective study on defining the school mission based on the Model of Instructional Leadership will
be performed. This study will contribute the body of knowledge about a relationship between define
mission and school performance from new perspective. In addition, this study shows that there is a
significant relationship between defining school mission and school performance.
