ROLE OF TEACHER EDUCATION IN QUALITATIVE ENHANCEMENT OF MODERN EDUCATION SYSTEM

Abstract

“Teacher education is all formal and informal activities and experiences that help to qualify to assume the responsibility as a member of the educational process or to discharge his responsibility most efficiently” - The Dictionary of Education by C. V. Good. In the ancient time it was believed that teachers are born not made but, in the modern time it is not expected that teachers to be born. Today every child goes to the school to acquire education. So, we need a large number of teachers to impart education to the children. Children wants to learn and develop themselves in a formal setting of school. Modern education system is known as child centric education. Here all the needs and demands of the children to be met by the teachers. Fulfilling all the needs and demands of students it is important to make teachers rather than create teachers. So, here comes the importance of teacher education. The very meaning of teacher education is the education that a teacher receives before joining in the profession and also the education that a teacher receives after joining in the profession. The aim of teacher education is to make the teacher more competent and mature so that they can do their duty more effectively. Teacher education plays a very significant role in developing efficiency in the teachers about knowledge, skills and understanding of the effective classroom transaction. Teacher training is very important to do the job of a teacher. An untrained teacher cannot deal effectively with the students. He/she merely learn about the teaching job after doing many years of practice. It affects the quality of education. Because the quality of education mostly depends on the quality of teaching. Teacher education makes the teacher competent and efficient in all the teaching skills and methods. So, the role of teacher in enhancing the quality of modern education cannot be ignored. Teacher education develops knowledge, builds confidence among the teachers and makes them capable in dealing with all the teaching-learning situations. Teacher education provides a vast knowledge about the various methods of teaching, principles of teaching, maxims of teaching, proper methods of evaluation, skills of classroom management etc. which are very essential in enhancing quality of modern education. Developing professional ethics among the teachers is very important in enhancing quality education, teacher education serves all these in a very effective manner.
