Eutectoid Decomposition Of Tungsten Carbide By Thermal Arc Plasma Treatment
Abstract
WC–W2C composites has been synthesized from WCby thermal arc plasma melt-cast techniquewithin 15 min. of plasma reaction.Different phases observed in the composites consisting of major phases of WC and W2C; and minor phases of unbound C (graphite) and tungsten (W) were confirmed by X-ray diffraction and Fourier transform infrared studies. Almost porous free nature of composites were observed from BET analysis. WC-W2C composite (5 min.) shows higher micro hardness (2630 VHN) value than that of pure WC sample..
