SOCIAL CAPITAL AND LOCAL DEVELOPMENT IN NAWONG SUB-DISTRICT MUNICIPALITY, HUAY-YOD DISTRICT, TRANG PROVINCE

Abstract

This study is community research using the Mixed Methods methodology. The research characteristic is Cooperative Action Research (CAR) between the university academics and the authorities of Nawong Sub-district Municipality including the community folks. The purposes aim to study the social capital of Nawong Sub-district Municipalityand to build up the social capital roadmap of Nawong Sub-district Municipality.

            The sample group includes 1) 14 community committees, 2) community leaders, City Council Members of Nawong Sub-district Municipality, Community President, Community Committees, President of Community Ladies,Village Headman, Deputy Village Headman, folk gurus, and peopleresiding in six communities of Nawong Sub-district Municipality (the first time was 190 samples and the second time was 67 samples selected), and 3) 631 people residing in six communities of Nawong Sub-district Municipality, a total of 632 people. The instruments used for data collection includeFocus Group Record Form, Unstructured Interview Form, Interview Form, Name List Form of Research Participants, Diagram of Social CapitalQuestionnaires, and Local Development Roadmap Form. The quantitative data were analyzed by using Frequency, Percentage, and Descriptive Analysis whereas the qualitative data were analyzed by using Descriptive Analysis.

 

            The research result considered the crucial points revealed as follows: 1) the social capital in Nawong Sub-district Municipality comprises 4 capitals; Personal Capital, Institutional/Organizational Capital, Cultural Capital, and Knowledge Base Capital. All six communities in Nawong Sub-district Municipality has 4 social capitals, 2) the local development roadmap in Nawong Sub-district Municipality comprises 4 capitals; Personal Capital, Institutional/Organizational Capital, Cultural Capital, and Knowledge Base Capital. The social capital which will be brought to build up the local development roadmap consists of Klong Yao Cultural Capital, Wat Khao Pina-Khao Pina Cave Institutional/Organizational Capital,Look Pang Making Knowledge Base Capital, and Personal Capital managed by personal development to prosperous and sustainable future according to the Thailand 4.0 Sufficiency Economy Philosophy.
