Abstract

Recent changes in the education tools and methodologies have made a remarkable progress in online education models. The pandemic situation all around the world left no opportunities than to indulge in online classrooms. Books have become digitalised and students interact using online tools like web cameras. This study has experimented the strategies for effective teaching through google classroom. About Seventy Engineering students from Panimalar Institute of Technology were chosen using a stratified sampling method. Effective ways of integrating the google tools to create a real classroom experience was explored. A teacher guided automation process was put into play to provide immediate feedback to the students. Developing comprehension skills to solve reading comprehension passages in competitive exams were focused. Lessons through google meet, assignments through google classroom and quizzes through google forms were administered to the students. Post-tests results have shown development not only in the grades, but also in their learning experience and self-analytical ability of the learners. A questionnaire was circulated among the students and their responses were analysed to understand their adaptability to the online tools and to know the limitations of the online classes. Major challenges in sustaining students’ interest, supervision, and connectivity were tackled through regular feedback, adaptive tests and interactive activities.
