FACTOR OF ORGANIZATIONAL CLIMATE AFFECTING THE TEACHER’S PROFESSIONAL COMPETENCIES IN PUBLIC SECTOR SECONDARY SCHOOLS IN PUNJAB
Abstract
The aim of the current study is to evaluate the effect of various factors of organizational climateaffecting the teaching competencies of teacher in public sector school. In this study following factors such as school climate, Leadership Process in the organization Motivational Forces for employees, Communication in the organization, Process of interaction influences in the organization, Process of decision making in the organization and Goal setting in the organization. Parents involvement, Behavior of colleague. Professional development.Teacher salary.school buildings, administrator behaviors, teacher work load, student behavior, community involvement, administration role, parent involvement, behavior of colleague, professional development teacher salary, and transportation problem were studied. It was found that these factors dramatically affect the teacher competences like Subject knowledge,Methods of teaching and strategies,Students developmental needs, Reflection of professional skillsand behavioral activities of teacherin the organization.Population of this research included all Secondary School Teachers (male and female) and all students of grade 10th from urban and rural areas in secondary public schools in Punjab. The instruments used to collect the responses from the target sample were Organizational climate index (OCI) for organizational climate,Teachers competence scale (TCS) for rating the Teacher’s competence and an observation schedule (O C) for rating the organizational climate. Three hundred and sixty Secondary school teachers and Nine hundred student of grade 10th students participated in this study.According to data analysis through SPSS(V.21) the findings of Pearson Correlation between Organizational Climate and Teachers’ Competences showed that organizational climate being independent variable positively influence the dependent variable i.e. teacher’s competence. The decision-making process. was highly and positively correlating component of organizational climate with the teacher’s competence factor, Teaching Methods and strategies competence. It was concluded that Organizational Climate was positively and significantly correlated with Teachers’ competence. This indicates that by improving the organizational climate scores the teacher’s competence can be improved.
Through multiple regression predictors of teacher competences was identified. Organizational Climate is composed of six components. Each component has some effect on teacher competence. The best predictor of teacher competence was Leadership process (β=.229, t=7.839, p<.001).and least predictor of teacher competence is Interaction Influenceprocess (β=.174, t=4.223, p<.001).
